Established in 1983, Catherine and Didier Champalou were both from a long generation of vigneron families. After meeting in viticulture school they decided to venture out on their own and start their own Domaine. Over the past 40 years their label has become one of the most highly-acclaimed in the appellation.

Only growing Chenin Blanc on their 25 hectares the vines sit on 3 different soil sections. The first being clay and limestone which is where most of their sparkling fruit comes from. On the other side they have siliceous and clay which gives some leaner tension to the fruit and lastly there is a small section of compressed clay. Here the fruit is richer and bolder in character. Since 1998 this portion of their vineyards has been aged in large 500L barrels for up to 18 months.

With these 3 different areas they are able to play around with many different styles of Chenin and show the true versatility of the grape.

Today, Didier and Catherine’s daughter, Céline heads the winemaking and is one of the region's rising stars with many calling her the new queen of Chenin.
