As a recent newcomer to the Beaujolais landscape, Philippe Viet is already making his mark as a quality producer in the region. He started his winemaking journey working for Eric Janin, at Domaine Paul Janin et Fils in Romanèche-Thorins, while also travelling to Australia to gain experience from Ray and Maree Nadeson at Lethbridge Wines in Geelong. Around 5 years ago Philippe purchased 2.5 hectares of old vines (50+ years) in Régnié-Durette on the Haute-Ronze sector, which make up his Cru Régnié wines and Beaujolais Villages. He also more recently acquired old vine parcels in Morgon (Corcelette) and Fleurie (Poncié).

Philippe believes that understanding and respecting his land is the key to making great wines, and the health of his soil and the environment are key factors for all decisions in the vineyard. The original parcel in Régnié is certified organic as of the 2022 vintage. The new parcels are in conversion to organic, and some biodynamic principles are used in all of the vineyards. The winery is based in the village of Morgon. Here, fruit goes through a 2 - 3 week semi-carbonic maceration with 100% whole clusters. The fruit is gently pressed, and the wine is aged for around 8-12 months in a mix of used demi-muids, epoxy eggs, sandstone amphorae and stainless-steel tanks. Only a small amount of SO2 is added after malolactic fermentation, and again at bottling.

These are terroir focused wines, with depth and character. The whole range displays concentrated fruit, powdery tannins and ripe, refreshing acidity keeping things in perfect balance. Suitable for ageing but highly drinkable on release. We are excited to be bringing these exciting new wines into Australia!
